Default Tallest bars using stock cables - 05 Fatboy

This is my first bike. 2005 Fatboy. I just don't like the stock bars and want to raise them up. I have searched and read as much as possible, but still don't have a game plan on what bars to get.

While I would imagine 14" or 16" apes would be recommended due to me being 6'3", I'm just not in the position to invest for all new cables, etc.

I would like to get the tallest bars I can using the stock cables. I have read many suggestions to go with a heritage style bar, but I'm even fuzzy on exactly which bars those are. Everyone seems to have different thoughts.

I see a Santee 11" Ape says stock cables will work.

I like the thought of going with the 1 1/4" bars that are reduced to 1" for grips and risers.

I know a lot is personal preference, but I suppose as a newer rider...I only know I want to go taller. I do have long arms as well.

Any thoughts on specific bars I could look at that are the tallest using stock cables, would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on height, good luck with that. But, you should definitely get the 1.25", they look soooo much better. Especially on a fatboy. Good luck.

I installed Heritage bars on my 06. Cost was $50 total. These are the tallest bar possible without changing anything. Because of the the turned up handles, bars ends, these are taller where your hands are then 10"-11" bars. Those bar ends turn down and inward, lowering your hands. Not saying Heritage bars look good, just sayin they function well for what they are. I am 6'2" and the bars are sooo much better then stock FB bars. I put these on thinking someday of spending the money for Apes. That was over four years ago.

Thanks for the replies...!

Kumaride.... can you tell me which specific bars you bought?

I will look for a 1 1/4" option for a Heritage bar as well.

Dont have a part number. Dealership can tell you, thats where I bought mine. Or search 00-06, something like that, Heritage bars. 1 1/4" would be nicer if they will work.

I'm 6'3" and I went with 20" apes that are 11/4" and I love them. Some people think its over kill but I think they fit comfortably and look awesome. When I bought my bike the previous owner put 4 inch pull back risers under the stock bars and that was as much as the bars would handle. I'm not sure the difference between fat boy and heritage.

I don't have a Fatboy, but do have a Heritage and have also replaced risers and handlebars on many bikes over the years. A good rule of thumb is that you can usually go at least 2" higher than the stock bars or risers without having to replace any cables. Anything beyond that and you might be pushing it. You won't know for sure though until you try.

I installed the "mini apes" without investing in new cables, but I did have to modify bend of front brake line. They were listed as 12" bars, stock replacement for Fatbob. Like others have mentioned the grips are turned in and down.

Any change to what you're used to and there is some wrist and back muscle adjustments getting used to it. I may try a set of Heritage bars next and see if that is more comfortable.
