Ok I need some experienced help here. I have a 08 train V&H short Shots and Roland Sands AC. rest of motor is stock. I have the low rpm chug in 2nd gear which is incredibly annoying when I ride in my neighborhood or on some of the Bike Runs when there are a crap pile of bikes. Any other time bike runs great and I have no complaints. I got suckered and bought the ViED thinking that would fix it and well it is slightly better and I mean slightly but not what I expected so I am out $120.00. Lesson learned. I have been searching and get impression I need a Tuner of some sort. I am not planning to build a race bike and I am quite happy with current power etc. just want to get rid of the surging and make it run cooler. I dont want a fancy digital display to mount on my bars I am a minimalist when it comes to my bike. What is my best option? The whole map selections and so forth seem confusing. I am not much of a techno geek.
define "Low RPM" please..like are you getting out from your driveway in 1st, and shifting to second pretty early to keep the noise down? At what speed are you getting this "chug"?
Example from my bike:
107", 555 cams, headwork, PCV, etc etc.. I have a speedo/tach combo so i can see at what RPM's i am.. If I shift from 1st->2nd at say..10-15mph, that puts me in the 1300-1500 rpm range, which means when I hit the throttle I get that little bit of chug-chug-chug until i get closer to that 2000-2100 RPM range when the engine starts purring.
.. is that what you're talking about? Because no tuner will really 'fix' that..its no different than shifting a car from 1st-2nd at 5mph and hitting the gas expecting to speed off.
Sgt- it is a surging like feeling when I am in second gear trying to keep Roma at minimum to keep speed around 20-25 it feels like I am letting off the gas and then giving it gas again it makes no noise or anything. It almost feels like too fast for first gear but too slow for second. This is only if I am trying to maintain slow consistent speed if I give it gas it responds with no delay and revs right through the gears. Like if I am pulling on a main road or highway no problems as I am giving it steady gas. My brother has same year nightstand except he has stage two big bore kit and it was remapped and his doesn't do the low rpm surge as I now call it. I hope that explains it better. I do understand that if you shift early and try to gas it there is the obvious lag. This isn't it. I am running first out pretty well and shifting into second and basically trying to keep it around 20 -25 at like 30 it smoothes out because RPM`s are up. A lot of thread say this is from lean setting from factory and only a tuner will get bike into richer set up. I just don't want to throw away any more money.

I'm running a FuelMoto PC III and still have some of the "30 MPH surge." I've heard other people with this issue as well in here. A pesky problem that seems to be particularly difficult to remove entirely.
A cheap tuner that does nothing but throw more fuel will NOT change U engine's timing events. It will make U engine run cooler.
A good F/M system and some good low-mid cams with a good tune will cure the problem.
I can run easy 15 in 2nd, 25 in 3rd, 35 in 4th, 45in 5th and 55 in 6th once I put in the Andrew 26's..
Also, if U build a Mid - High TQ engine, U may still have trouble below 2200 or so rpm's.
U have to build the motor to serve Ur needs,, not what others have.
