As others have mentioned. Ride it. Get to know the bike and you figure out the rest as you go along. Don't be in a big hurry to buy stuff that later you realize you may not have wanted in the first place or need for that matter cuz this sheet cost money.
I am a firm believer in loud pips save lives. First thing if it were me is get rid of the quiet stock exhaust. Rush slip ons are a great and less expensive way to do that.
I like crash bars. I don't like the thought of my leg or foot getting trapped between a 700 pound bike and the pavement and if I can minimize that. Crash bar is a great way to go.
I have an 07 Heritage. I always thought the Heritage seat was one of the most comfortable seats around. It didn't push me forward and was a nice wide seat for long riding. I miss my Heritage seat but unfortunately didn't flow with my style. Break that seat in and see where your at a little later down the road. They do make a wider passenger pillion that you can probably find on ebay that is more comfortable than the stock one that comes on the bike.
Oh and I almost forgot. Gotsaggybags kit. I agree with do it now while they are new. Years later your bags will still look new. Cost around 100 dollars but when I sold mine several years later the guy who bought them couldn't get over how new they looked. Which in turn numb'd the effect on his wallet for the price I was asking for them. I don't run the Heritage bags anymore. I did like them though. Huge bags and looked good on the bike.

Very interesting reading with great ideas. Our new Heritage Classic was just delivered yesterday. Can't wait to ride it but it's got to warm up first. Don't want to hijack the thread but any suggestions on passenger floorboards?

That's awesome! Congrats on the heritage. You might want to get the Harley's parts catalog and check out all the different options in floorboards
As far as breakin goes the owners manual clearly states how the manufacture would like you to do it.
What the hell is breaking in???? Ride the damn thing from day one like you stole it. I'm old school & we don't break stuff in. lol
Every vehicle I have ever owned was driven/ridden that way. No worries.

I have a 2011 Heritage. It is the swiss army knife of the Harley line. That bike will do anything you ask of it. You can tour on it. You can cruise with it. I added some quick detach hardware to mine and i can change the entire look of it in 5 minutes. pop off the windshield, the backrest and passenger seat.Slap on a rear fender bib and you got a cool slammed down look for cruising.Did a stage one and SE slip ons to make it breath and she runs like a bear.

Checked out fleebay for the adjustable passenger mounts for our '12 Heritage and went with the stock floorboards. The Adjustable mounts are no longer offered by HD, don't know why, but they are the nicest looking set I could find and went on with no problems. The adjustable mount lets you adjust the angle of the passenger floorboard so that the rider can sit comfortably. My wife loves them, no more peg that leaves a sore spot on the arches of her feet. Just type in " HD Adjustable Floorboard mount"
I didn't read past page one, so sorry if the link has already been given..... go to www.saggybags.com to get the inserts for your bags. The dealership told me to buy them over the HD ones.
I'm 2012 owner, I changed my oil/filter after 100 miles. Changed over to syn. Keep your brake rooters clean. Check the shock adjustment for weight applied. Changes, the bike can change from present to solo, no windshield, bags pass seat. Harley has a complete detach system you can develope to suit your daily riding needs. As others noted changing air/pipes make sure your dealer won't void warranty. I had one warranty claim. Found the rear abs sensor cable touching the exhaust system. Other than that the bike can really move with the 103. Get the latest parts cat & read it over many times & you can find many great upgrades or looks. Most can be installed by the owner. Enjoy, I ride no windshield always.
