500 to 1000 miles to break in, best exhaust pipe brands are Samson, Vance and Hines, Rinehart, D&D, to name a few. The heritage is one of the best stock Harley because it comes with saddlebags, windshield, and comfortable seat so there is not a lot you need; however, you might want to eventually look into shotgun air suspension and a better passenger seat if you have a passenger that rides with you.

Just ride it for a while. you'll figure out what you need real quick. 1st thing I did was got some slip on mufflers. I was poor after buying the bike, so I went on ebay and got a set of used Rush mufflers for $40. I'll switch those out someday when I have more money, but they'll do for now. I changed the grips, added a crash bar, smoked turn signal lenses, and that's it so far. Next will be a new seat. The 800 mile trip I did in one day taught me I needed one. Have fun with it!

A saggy bag system, a thigh protector from heat, some slip ons, leather conditioner on all the leather and vinyl once a month. Wax the bike frequently if you live or ride near the ocean.
I personally love the stock seat. Most everything else I've done is cosmetic. Don't keep going near the Dealerships or shop online if you can't afford to keep spending Hundreds of Dollars.
Enjoy your new bike and post some pics.

Initially, I would opt for:
  1. An engine guard.
  2. The "stop/tail/turn" module for the rear, that enables your rear turn signals to function as additional brake lights.
  3. The adapter that allows you to use your auxiliary lights up front when your headlight is on high beam.

You'll figure out the rest as you go along. Welcome to the family!

As many said, you'll figure out what you want/need. There is a lot of good info here but also a lot of reason for you to spend money. For now, congrats and enjoy!

As far as breakin goes the owners manual clearly states how the manufacture would like you to do it.

Put saddle bag inserts in now before they lose their shape. I bought some cheap inserts off ebay from bag sharpers. My bags are nearly 6 years old and still have their shape

The first mod you will need is a BIGGER wallet

The first mod we did was to install the Bassani Road Rage 2-1 pipes and the second was to install the Shotgun Shock air suspension system, this should have been the first, oh well.

You can look at our sig to see the rest of the mods we have done, gotta finish the Progressive Mono-Tube fork installation, "Got saggy bags" bag flap insert and the Lizard lights to install under the fuel tank.

The two vids below are of the Bassani Road rage pipes on our bike. The first one I did and the second one, of our bike, was done by Bassani to use on their web site.

Keep us posted on what you do and enjoy.

If you like the stock pipes let American Customs gut the cats out and put in the big growl baffles. Plus it will give your right leg a rest from the extreme heat. The price is right and won't bust the hog bank.

I also put in a K&N filter and power commander and had it dynoed. It runs great! Don't expect great numbers but the A/F will be dead on.

Plus be careful on what you do with regards to HD Warranty! The power commander can be removed in less than 5 minutes and HD won't have an excuse to void your warranty.

Don't do any major changes to the engine until the warranty has passed.

I know because I have had a lot of experience Service and the HD Rep.
