Years ago I rebuilt a Sportster that did the same thing. Seems that the oil pump has to be 'timed' with the crank and cams. Might want to look closely at the manual to see if it's the same here.

what this guy^ said. Also it is going to happen when the engine sits without running for a long time. It is also possible that the check ball valve or seat in the oil pump is not working or seating correctly. Check an make sure your ball or spring is not worn.
