The bike will turn off at the ignition but the kill switch won't shut the bike down.
When I start up and turn on the ignition then use the kill switch(run) I can hear the fuel pump and the bike is starting fine. If I go to shut down the bike using the kill switch first, the red light comes on but the bike will only turn off at the ignition.
It's a 2012 Heritage. Yes it's still under warranty but can't get to the Dealership before Wednesday unless I forgo a weekend of riding. The question I have is do I have any worries going on a long ride this weekend? Or should I forget that and get the bike to the Dealership asap. I don't want the bike cutting out on me 200 miles from home.
I'd say there is no way to know for sure. If get gets stuck "ON" what would prevent it from getting stuck "OFF." Regardless, it's your call as to what risk you want to take. Maybe someone will chime in who had the exact issue.
I was initially thinking the switch may have just failed ON (meaning that, no matter on or off, the switch makes a circuit).
Will the bike start with the kill switch OFF?
If you do turn the kill switch to OFF, you say it pops up a red light? The error light on the speedo, or what?
Yes the red light is on the speedo but only comes on when I turn the kill switch to off which is not turning off the bike. I definitely need to put the run switch on to start the bike - I can hear the fuel pump when I do.
The bike is going to HD on Wednesday for a fix. When I called them today they said they'd never heard of this problem before (obviously it's not 'normal').
You definitely have some wiring problems I don't know how far I would venture away from home till you get it fixed if it is shorting it will drain the battery fast and leave you stranded.
Elc chit can be a bitty.. I've never heard of one doing this either.. If mine I'd prob just let the dealer have at it.. Not sure I'd feel good about riding it very far from home either.
Sounds like a back feed from the turn signal switch.
Problems in the switch housing.
Under warranty, take it in. Unless your real handy you don't want to go in there. Just Sayin.
This morning the bike was working just fine. Kill switch killing and signal signaling. Took a chance and rode to Sebring (about 100 miles plus each way) and the bike behaved all day.
I wonder if a running light bulb that went out yesterday and which I changed had something to do with it. Seems like the system has re-set itself.
It's booked in with the dealer for Wednesday morning so I can still take it there but knowing HD they will say no codes thrown and they can't replicate the problem.
