I've owned two Harley touring bikes and on both had Vance and Hines ovals. I now have a 2013 Fatboy and would like to know what product offers similar sound on the softail that I got from the Ovals on the touring bike. With the ovals it wasnt to loud yet had a low throaty sound. More of a low rumble.
And what do you all think of the slip on route to save some $$$$. Otherwise of course looking at 1500-2000 for all new system.
Well, since you've been riding a while I'll assume you know where to find a bike night to listen to various exhausts, which is still good advice. V&H Big Shots Staggered are pretty loud, the Pro Pipe not so much. My impression of most 2-1 systems is that they are not as harshly loud as 2-2 or similar. Lots of choices. Personally I would not do slip-ons, as I would want to get rid of the catalysts.
I first ran the V & H Pro-pipe 2 into 1, great performance mod and not too harsh on the sound. I've now got Samson dual 39" Fishtails, great sound & great look but loses a bit on the performance in comparison. +1 on QC's advice, get to a rally or similar and hear a few options, there are plenty out there!
I've tried the slip ons and while I got decent sound I wasn't fully satisfied, so I got a full system the Vance and Hines short shots and I love it. As far as the cat, on my 2013 FB LO it was actually in the slip ons not in the headers, so changing slip ons will get rid of the cat.
Unless they changed in the 13 bikes. I though the Cats on Softies was still in the muffs VS Touring bikes that are in the Headers.
As far as wanting a DEEP set of Slip ons.. Rush with the 1 1 /2'' or 1 3/4'' baffles would do u a good job, I have the 2'' there mellow at cruising, but they get loud when U get on it.. more so with cams.
