Gotta agree with some of the other folks in this thread: the heel shifter keeps my size 13 boot off the primary, and it's much easier to find neutral with, too.

Plus, now that I've learned to use it, I can actually clean the black "motorcyclist's stain" from my uniform boot and not worry about it coming back in a few days!

Congrats on the new bike. I bought a Slim yesterday, too!

Congrats. Heel shifter gone (it really confused me)((no new tricks for this dog)). Toe shifter extended 2 inches and tucked nicley inward. Brake extended also. Find neutral easy enough while moving just before braking.

I wish that the Slim had been out when I bought my 48. It is a great looking bike. Congrats.

Congrats on buying one of the visually coolest Harley's offered. If you haven't noticed it has plenty of "getti-up" about it, too. There's still a few minor changes I'll be doing to mine, but nothing to spoil that great look. I think you're going to enjoy it.

If you don't like the heel toe shifter, you don't have to use it. Just shift with your toe. It still works that way.

Congrats on your new Slim!

Default shifty

Well the first thing I do when I get a new or new to me bike is discard the heel shifter. Traps my feet into one place and just gets in the way. After 35 years on Harleys guess I'm a bit set in my ways. I go on long trips and need the extra space to wiggle around in. I found one of the takeoffs in the trailer the other day. Took it off when I bought the bike. I made a spacer out of an antenna adapter off my Road Glide that I didn't use anymore(nice knurled piece) and drilled it to fit tight. I just move the toe shifter out to the outer end and fill the middle. As far as the brake I just use a bigger pedal off a dresser.

Congrats!! I love heel-toe shifters. I normally ride in cowboy boots and it keeps the shifter from rubbing the top of my boot. Can't wait to see a picture!

Hey congrats!

I never had the heel shift on any other bike I had in the past, first one on my 2014 Slim. I love it; now I use it all the time.
It is a matter of personal preference and being accustomed to. leaving it does not hurt and, as other members pointed out, it does offer some protection as well.
