Well, I no longer wonder what it's like hitting a Deer! It jumped in front of me and I was going 50ish. It literally happened in 1 single second, or less, I never even had time to hit the brakes. I saw nothing more than a light brownish blurr. I was lucky in that it was a glancing blow, I could not imagine hitting one dead center. I also didn't go down but that had to be because of an angel on back, not skill even though I consider myself a very skilled rider.
I am also glad to report my bike took very little damage, at least as far as I can tell for now. I never went down, thank God. I can't however say the same for my left leg, it took the brunt of the blow. Hairline fracture tib, torn knee meniscus and my hip was about ripped out.
Yes, my health and well being is much more important than my bike but still, I'm pretty damn happy my bike wasn't trashed.
EDIT: 1 more reason I love my apes. I seen that flash of his rump pass right under my bars. Had I had my stock bars on my bike they would have dug right into his rump and it would have been a lot uglier than it was.

Glad you will mend (and I sincerely hope completely and quickly), and that the bike's ok. These damned deer this time of year are a serious hazard. Hit one myself about 3 weeks ago on my bike, much slower, mostly took her rump to my shoulder, and no damage to me, bike, or deer. Thanks for posting - serves as a good reminder to keep our heads on and our skills sharp.
Whoa, that could have been worse for sure.
Glad to hear it wasn't.
Between all the rain we've been having plus the fact that our deer rut is peaking right now, I'm seriously considering putting it away early this year...
..and stories like this aren't' helping...

Again, sorry to hear about this, but glad you're able to tell us about it...
Some have been less fortunate.
If you find yourself needing any kind of knee surgery, shoot me a PM.
I've had NINE of them - [6] arthroscopics (3 each) and after there was no more cartilage left to scrape [3] replacements (I broke one and had to have it re-done.)
