Default Baffle question.

I decided to remove the baffles from my 06 night train. The pipes are v and h short shots, and the bike is fuel injected. I like the sound of it better now than with the baffles. The only question I have is.......will removing the baffles cause any damage to the bike itself? I ask people at the dealership and cant get a for sure answer out of them. I do understand that it may take horsepower away by doing so. Has anyone removed baffles from a fuel injected bike, and if so what has been your experience?

Default RE: Baffle question.

I recently bought a used 06 fxstsi, and the previous owner had some Samson pipes on that were not baffled. The sound was great, but too loud for me. (Actually, just too loud for neighbors and law enforcement.) When I put baffles in on some new V & H sideshots hs, I had the SERT re mapped. The a/f ratio was too lean. I'm not really sure how it was with the unbaffled pipes. At any rate, the baffles I think give a little more low end torque, but it really wasn't bad without the baffles. Everyone would tell me that by not having baffles, you ruin your low end torque. I didn't find this to be true. Like I said, maybe a little difference, but not a lot.

I'm interested in this too. I know you should always retune with any changes to the A/F, but I don't ride my bike super hard, never redline it and wondered about pulling my baffles without a tune for a short period of time.

I'm interested too. I have the Big Shots and sometimes wonder about putting IN baffles. Given the choice I would leave them out but if it doesn't hurt I might slipp them in on occasion.

I just called Vance and Hines. They do not recommend adding or taking out baffles without retuning.

When you take baffles out your bike should run leaner. I would be more apt to have a bike re-tuned if I pulled the baffles, than if I added baffles. My bike has Samson drag pipes and they come without baffles. I added some minimum 9" baffles to quiet it down a tad and never retuned it. My thinking is that all I have done is richen the A/F ratio a little. It still runs fine.
