Default I need bags

So I am trying to decide what to get for saddlebags. I have a 04 fatty. I kinda like the stripped down look, so I won't keep them on all of the time. Just for trips and what not. I like the detachable bags from harley, but so spendy. Does anyone use those throw-over type bags(notsure what they are called). The ones that you can buy and just throw over the seat. Do they stay on very well? I have the stock exhaust... so will they get in the way of that? I don't know, maybe another option would be to get a detachable sissybar and strap a duffle bag on that. Any ideas?

I would ck with J&P Cycles on the bags..but even the throw over ones in there have braces u have to mount to keep them from hitting ur brake and stuff..so w/o the bags on u will have the braces showing..might look kinda funky without the bags on them..I like the stripped down look also so went for a leather backpack instead..prob could have a custom leather backpack made for the price of the bags...just a thought.

I bought a set of EZ Brackets and got a set of leather throwover bags off of ebay made by harley d... The throwovers had a hard back to them so it didn't need any additional backing support. I just cut the bags off the throw over part and mounted them to the ez brackets.... total cost was 75 for the bags (brand new by the way) and the ez brackets I believe were 150.... plus they use a key and can lock on.

I don't what you mean.... I like the 'stripped down look' as well, but from time to time like to have the bags on for storage.

I was lucky though, as the previous owner of the FatBoy I purchased has installed the HD detachable saddlebags (along with the detachable pass rest/luggage rack).

The HD detachable bags look good without being too large, but like you mentioned they are expensive. I checked the Parts Catalog, and they have a list price of right at $799 (PN 90388-04). I don't think I would have spent that much money myself, but since they were already installed it was a little 'bonus' when I got the bike.

I broke down and bought the Boss Bags while in Daytona this past weekend, love them! They are pricey but easy on/off was a big plus for me, plus they look great!!

I really gotta get some decent pics up of the scoot with the finished product in sunlight.. I relocated the rear signals onto a laydown license plate mount and went with a set of Iron Max bags from Ironbags.. Convinced me that I really couldn't care less about quick-detachability. So for me, "stripped-down" now means no sissy-bar, rear seat or windsheild. hehehe Lowered with the big bags rocks! In my opinion..

Also being able to load them down with what used to take up both bags and a sissy bar bag slam full is the best part. The one-man manufacturer also states they were designed to load up full of rocks if you had to.. No 15 lb maximums here. He carries a bunch of tools in his. Best quality I've ever seen in a saddlebag. Hope so.. They cost me pretty.

Just a thought for an alternative. Not all Max's bags are this HUGE though.

Holy cow, it's been since December and it's March already.. I gotta get some riding in.
