For me, personally, I am glad when people have jumped in when I was getting ready to buy something that was of poor quality and better products out there that I was getting ready to invest in. I had been looking at air ride systems for about 6 months before I pulled the trigger on the SS's. I am so glad they did too because had I bought something other than the SS then found out what I now know about the SS I would have been mad at myself and bummed I had not done my research. That's all I do, I try to enlighten them, with what I know and try to steer them to a better product. I also just for the life of me can't figure out how people who do not have the SS can comment on it or give it a poor review. Many people who made **** out of me for over a year because of how I promoted or "cheered" for the SS now has one on their bikes. I guess maybe I do know a lil bit bout somethin and I was right both in my choice of products and helping others to pull the trigger too, even the then "nay sayers"!!!
The two of you need to get over it already. Socal, no one cares if you buy a shotgun shock just move on already. ghoti we get it, you love yours, please do the same. It is one thing for people to sing praises about the product and the man behind it, but it is going a little far this time. I think everyone has expressed their feelings, now lets just let it die before you both try to prove that you can be just as childish as the other.
I was not going on and on praising the shotgun. I was pointing out the ignorance behind the statements being made. Its a forum, its a conversation... that's what its for. Is it really that big of a deal?
Of course you can us lowering bolts and drop the stock front end too. It just gets you no where near or close to what an air ride system can give you as well as the Progressive gas tubes. Are you solo or 2 up most or all of the time? If I had it to do all over again? I wouldn't touch it until I could afford the SS. It's one SWEET mod and you will NEVER be sorry you did it. Of course we all also know what it's like having a slightly shy wallet too.
I wouldn't go that far. The lowering bolts are very cheap on eBay (although a pain to install since you have to take apart the shock) and the lowering collars are under $100, which are the better solution (IMO) because of the ease of installation. So if someone can't afford the shotgun system, they can still get the look they want by doing those things.... although it won't ride as well.
Harley has had some issues with reliability... Don't buy one!
There problem solved!!!
Who or what product doesn't have some issues. Heck a bolt can be broken if installed incorrectly or the hardening process didn't work.
Just seems people who read a few reports of an issue on a product forget to realize for everyone one of those reports 1000 others had no issues at all or more.
Not sure why someone feels the need to continue to point out 5 issues.
WGAF!
When I had laser surgery on my eyes back in 2000 I went looking for reviews. OH DAMN all kinds of stories of people losing their site, having the layer that gets cut dry out and their vision ruined for life, night vision problems all kinds of issues.
I then started thinking about statistics and realizing people just report the bad.
I took my chances and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.
These forums can be great. They can also be several pages of guys arguing about something that just isn't necessary!
I've done the bolt thing on other bikes. It was stiff and uncomfortable and two up was a no no. I have left this bike completely stock until I can afford or am allowed to buy an air suspension. Until then it will remain stock. My decision based on my experience of 25years of messing with these things.
OP good luck!
I had lowering bolts for about two months. I weigh 175 and had them set to about 1.5". If I hit a good size bump the shocks would bottom out and jar my back. Going down the highway at 75 and having that happen is not a good feeling.
I installed a Shotgun Shock about 2 months ago. The above never happens and my back thanks me for that. My wife started riding with me and if I had lowering bolts we would have been riding damn near close to riged, and we both would not have enjoyed it. Hell, I doubt she would even ride with me anymore.
There are many options out there. I chose the cheap route first, but am thankful I installed the Shotgun Shock. I am sure you will make a choice that fits your needs.
24V - did you lower your BO? If so, what kit did you use? Are you happy with the ride after the suspension change? I have a BO and though about lowering the rear but I really like the ride the way it is so I am concerned about ruining - your thoughts?
