I thought I would start a new thread. There is the ape ****, blacked out, chromed out, freaked out, paint, wheels and suspension so why not seats? This is not just for those who have custom seats or seat work to show but for those who have thought of new seats or getting seat work done but have yet to act. You can post pictures of your seat and also say what it is that you bought or had done and then comment on it. Then those who have yet to pull the trigger, this can help them. I'm doing this because I was on the edge for over a year with what to do about seats. I read so many threads where guys have bought up to 3 or 4 seats before they got what they liked or what fit them. I decided to have my stock seat reworked and by a local. I was able to stay current on it in case I had to make changes and not shipping it back and forth somewhere.
I have the stock seat on my 06 Deluxe, the passenger pillion as well. I also have the Springer rail and driver backrest done as well as the quick detach passenger padded sissy bar. I also have the HD larger back pillion too, the one that is more of a roundish seat. I had 2" of the stock padding removed and replaced that with 1 1/2" of GelFoam all the way around only with some of the pieces not having that much to remove so I had about 75% of the stock foam, removed on those pieces and replaced with the GelFoam. I also kept the stock side bottom piece of the seat I had put back on too. I then had it finished in the Black and White to match the bike, hand grips and plug wires.
If you have never seen or held that stuff, it's weird! When you squeeze it it feels as though water should be squirting water out only there is none!!! It's heavier than foam too. I can't think of another or better way to describe it. It's hard to describe even now. It is VERY form fitting though, you can see the creases of your jeans imprinted on it when you get off. To be able to rate it though is hard because I have the air suspension and apes that has me sitting differently. I can say this though. On a bad day after 20, 30 minutes of riding my tail bone hurt so bad I would have to pull over and have a smoke. Since? Nearly zero pain and even that is very infrequent. I know this is long but seats are expensive to buy only to have hanging on a nail in the garage. Enjoy this thread and ride safe.
You can not see it in these pictures. If you know the Deluxe you will know it has a burgundy-ish pinstripe on it, the tank and fenders on the 06. I got the seat Black and White to match the bike. That stitching was chosen to match that pinstripe. I tried to pay attention to detail on everything that I have done to this bike. If there are those who would have done something totally different from what I have done I totally respect their opinion. That's why there are SO MANY sweet bikes on this forum. If not it would be really boring seeing the same thing over and over. I would be safe to say 1/3 of everything I done to my bike came as a direct result of this website.
LaPera barebones too. Red diamond stitch. Thinking about have my stock redone somewhere inbetween stock and barebones with the same pattern. That said the barebones doesn't bother me (comfort wise) until I put the stock seat back on and feel the difference (stock seat does push my nuts into the tank though)
Damn, Kosy, from that last pic, it looks like your tail-bone is on it's own with that seat! Beautiful stitching though. Thought about that red stitching when I ordered mine...
TBone where did you find that backrest. All the ones I see have a much lower height to them.
I swapped out my deluxe stock seat for the heritage stock seat since it pushed me back a little further.
