Default Kuryakyn Grips

Has anyone ever installed new grips on there scoot? Just bought a new pair of Kuryakyn grips with throttle boss and really do not want to spend one hour labor rate at the dealership to install them.

If it was anything like when I put the old ones on my new bars, then you should just have to take off the switch boxes, then on the left you can remove the grip and put the new one on. For the throttle just take out the cables (make sure you know which one goes where) and replace. Pretty simple actually. I thought it would be hard. I was wrong.

I just did mine last night (ISO grips with boss) .... put it off for over a month after reading the directions[] Once I started it took all of 1 hour to finish. And that was taking my time....

suggestions... I am taking a wild guess you got the ISO grips with boss from Eastern Perf? great price...

1. Make sure you place a soft dark colored blanket under the bike to catch the tiny brass end things on the throttle cable (they are NOT attached!) seems HD could have made a better system.

2. Do the Throttle side first. (good advice I got from another forum member = 06FXDBI ) that way you can make sure the LEFT grip is lined up the same pattern as the throttle. Since the LEFT grip is glued on, you get only ONE chance to get it right.

3. follow the instructions and make sure remove both screws (which the instructions dont tell you) but there are 2 screws for the thottle switch cover. the top one (easy to see). and one under the bottom next to the horn button.

the super glue they give you really sucks to get out of the bottle... have fun.

THANKS! Going to start doing a lot of work myself rather then take it to the dealer all the time and then when I get home have to check to make sure that all was done correctly.

The biggest problem I have with taking it in to the dealer is when I change the oil and filter they ALWAYS over fill the oil.

Once you have the grips on, can you adjust the throttle boss or do you have to make sure it is correctly places before you finish.

Very straight forward job.

just remember to put a washer in the front brake lever to keep tension on the brake light switch, and don't get in a hurry.

Be careful when you open the throttle housing that you don't lose the brass busshings. and while you're in thre go ahead and lube the cables. spend an extra few minutes and make sure you get your throttle cables adjusted properly.

The left side is a no brainer, line it up with the throttle side and slide it on.

The throttle boss can be adjusted after the grips are on. you will probably want to adjust it fater riding anyway to find the spot you like best for your riding style. Once you have it, put a drop of blue lock tite on the 440 screws to prevent them from vibrating loose.

I also loosened up the throttle/idle cables using the adjustable jam-nuts on the cables themselves. Made it easier to re-thread the cables around the throttle grip. Then, I tightened them back up.

Its fun and rewarding working on your own bike, plus you save tons of money for more stuff. Get a service manual and take your time. If you get stuckget on here or other forums and you should have an answer within an hour. Just take your time and have fun.
