Default the more I read, the more I am confused on pipes!

sure, I've listened to youtube videos of Python pipes and V+Hs, and some others, but where do I really start?

I'm looking for slipons probably initially (although really do like the Big Shots long). Not to do a whole exhaust overhaul. Stock heritages are pretty quiet. My GF has pythons on her RK, and I had pythons on my sporty, which I liked a lot.

Any advice on articles that compare brands and maybe listen to them? Any solid recommendations for a throaty putt putt and I'm not interested in obnoxiously loud.

Thanks!

Most of the major exhaust manufacturers have sound bites on their websites; check there. You could also try American Custom Exhaust. They take your stock mufflers and install removable baffles to change the tone; quiet to loud. Very reasonably priced and a solid product.
Or you could just go with what you know (Python)...

dragon flyrider if you like the look of pipes on each side then I would recommend V&H true duals. On our 07 heritage we have them it sounds great. I don't if you would be able to find any clips and my camera doesn't take good videos but you may want to look into them. Yesterday I had seen a Heritage softail and it had python set up like our true duals but with fish tails and it was much quieter and closer to stock.

I sat on a bike with duals, and my thigh was literally pressed against the pipe. Couldn't handle that on a ride and having to stop. I do like the look, but will stick to the staggard I guess......I guess I'll try that-going to the sites and finding out more there.

videos and sound bytes will get you only so far.. they'll give you an idea, but the sound for videos on YouTube are always limited by the microphone on the device on which the video was recorded, and then further limited by the quality of the speakers that's playing them. So, yeah, you'll just get an idea, but everything will sound worse.

I'm sure there's still bike nights or open house weekends going on.. go to a bike meet up, see some pipes you like, and just ask the guy who owns the bike to fire them up

I have V&H slip-ons, much better than stock. I am very pleased with them.

I went back to the dealership to get my gremlin bell off of my old bike, and we talked about the pipes...think I'll settle on the python 2 1/2" slash cut slip ons.

This is the best way, although it may take some time to hear the pipes you like. Web site are helpful but you can't really "hear" them, like in person.

I went with looks. But the first time I heard them after 5 months of stock, I knew I'd be stopped for loud pipes. They seemed loud as hell. That was in May and I've never been stopped yet.
