Check your wheel bearings first, they fail alot...Then check your front end. Mine clunked also, then the MOCO issued a new thicker washer for the rocker front end to replace the one that was spec'd out and installed incorrectly at the factory. Only 5 bucks to fix.

two yrs ago I had my indy change the fork oil along with tires. We put a little heavier oil in the forks but I noticed a very spongy front end and she would bottom out easy as soon as I left
Thinking maybe it'll take a few bounces to even out, soon afterwards I had some clunking while going over a road that wasn't smooth, like a washboard.

Called him when I got home and He said sounded like low oil. I checked my shop mamual and found out he put in the amount for another softail. Don't remember what the OZ was but it was almost 3oz's low in each fork.
Rode her right back in and he added what was needed and no more clunking.
Actually I think she clunked on the rebound, not on the down stroke..

Just thought U might check that out also.

The service bulletin is probably the correct answer. One caution, however. This was not a required repair... it was for those customers that don't like the clunk. When you increase the torque you can end up with a front end that is much more 'twitchy'. As a result you might find that holding the bike 'on balance' while in a slow moving line will be more difficult.

I got rid of my clunk... and then put some of it back in as a result.

I know on my 95 FXDL when I had a clunk like this I had a bad front motor mount

Just looking for some advice

Thanks again!!

Call the dealer and ask them if they are aware of the service bulletin (give them the SB #). If they say yes, ask them why they wouldn't take care of it on your bike.

Did they get your approval before changing the FOB battery? I would tell them to stick it and that you would have changed the battery yourself. $80? It really takes them an hour to do?

I haven't really looked into it anymore right now...In the process of deciding on winter mods or trading in the bike on a 14 roadking
