Default Clutch Hanging

I put my bike in winter storage about a month ago. I left it in first gear as I always do just to make sure it doesn't somehow roll forward off the kick stand. I pulled in the clutch lever this morning to move it forward a little to change the tire position and it was extremely hard to roll forward with the clutch lever pulled in. I put the bike in neutral and it rolled forward with no problem. Is this normal and everything will break loose when I bring it out of storage and start riding it?

Yeah when the bike is sitting on the jiffy stand a portion of the clutch is submerged in primary oil.
This cold oil is somewhat viscous and will cause drag on the clutch.

Normal, don't even have to sit a while to do that.

Actually, it's not so much the cold oil being more viscous that causes the issue. It's the fact that during storage, oil can drain off of the clutch plates. Being a wet clutch, it was designed to operate with a specific coefficient of friction (around say .05) when running properly.

Dry friction/steel plates will increase this coefficient a varying amount (let's say .2 for example). This means a dry clutch has roughly 4x as much friction as a wet one.

Combine this with the fact that your clutch doesn't 100% disengage even when the lever is pulled in, and you suddenly have more friction than you normally encounter. This will lead to it feeling sticky.

If you rock the bike several times, you can unstick the plates and get everything back to normal.
