Greeting my friends. Wanna ask your opinion on this, my head is thinking solenoid, but want other opinions as well. Bike, 08 FXSTC with 52K on the clock. Every now and then, not all the time though, with bike hot, I hit the start button and the starter will engage, turn over a time or two, disengage, fart back through AC, then re-engage, start. What say Ye? A solenoid kit is way cheaper than a starter. Thanks in advance for your input.

That sounds more like a starter kick back. Do search a bunch of thread will come up, pretty common.
Could be the battery is a little weak or the cables could be loose or corroded. When the engine is hot the fuel in the cylinder will expand faster and ignite earlier causing the starter to stall and you get the carb, or throttle body, fart. Our '06 Sporty did this all the time when hot and the battery was a little weak.
Do you keep your battery on a battery tender?
I have heard that if you get a tuner and set it to 0 advance at zero rpm it helps stop kickback. Not all tuners allow this but...
I got a Daytona twin tech for my FXSTD, it helped, mine isn't injected so I couldn't use an ECM tuner.
Have more time, on the computer. As the bike shuts off it spins untill it get on the compression stroke and then stops, so when the starter tries to spin it it has a hard time getting past this.
It happens "more" with a weak battery. Most guys including me will just tap the starter button and not try to start the bike, this will push it past this point and then just start the bike normal. Like dduce said if you have a tuner you can set the retard the timing at start up, but I don't so when my bike is hot, just avoid the problem with a quick tap.
