Looking to knock down rpms @70mph on 05 fxst.
Rode 2up with some others that ride pretty hard---trailed behind big-time with high rpms.
We no likey.
stock pulley are 32/70
A few combos to be had-
32/65 or 34/70 or 34/65
My initial thought is to change the front to 34, or would just changing rear from 70 to 65 do it?
Whats combo is recommended?
Thanks.

I guess I will reply to myself and say I got a 34t gear, testing this Saturday-
doing a dyno run to 70mph and see how far off speedo is,
shop is interested in the speedo change, so it's a free run don't know if I will get any other dyno feedback.
Peace.

I'm interested in this as well. I ride on the freeway often and feel as if it's missing a gear. I don't go faster than 70mph because of the high RPMs. Keep us updated.
I was and still am thinking of converting to a 6 speed. My only concern is if I am doing 65 and only turning maybe 2300 rpms in 6th, will I have enough power to pass another vehicle without downshifting? My sweet spot for power seems to be in the 2800-3400 rpm range.
I will be 2up testing tomorrow- I installed a control extension kit and an easy effort clutch kit last week-feels like a dif bike already, so it should be a fun ride-hope to report back with an effective difference. I'll ask about what the rpm's @70mph are now.(new saddlemen seat with backrest and some heels rest be here next week)
Wednesday shop quoted me mid 500 out the door-ordered the gear yesterday, called me today and it was 390 ready - come and get it..right now I feel like I got a fantastic deal, they let me drop it off after hours last night and met me there after 7pm-it was dark and cold, they got the gear in today and got it done , they are closed tomorrow, but again going up there to let me pick up my ride at 9am....super cool place.

So did you end up getting the front or rear? Or both?
I only replaced the front 32t trans pulley gear with 34t and made a big difference 75 on speedo is 80 on road--my odometer will read slightly less real miles.
Slowing down on highway I was @55mph and had to downshift to get going again so I wouldn't be lugging it, never did that before....money well spent.
You can probably get it done 50$ cheaper if you buy the gear...he charged me $165 and I found it several places for $113....I could care less right now
The gear was made by Andrews. I am very satisfied with the result....now I just need my seat to get here.
Waiting for dense fog to fade out for the 2up test ride.
Just got back from some 2up in town riding and there is a big difference on the low end too. With 32t gear I would be shifting into 2nd midway across an intersection from a stop, now I'm making all the way across the intersection and just getting all the way out of the clutch. All the gears seem to have a lower rpm disposition and find that all the gears have more range now. Shifting into 5th at 50mph is almost lugging the motor if you dont wind up 4th gear---the gear change works better than expected. I went for it without locating any input and I'm super glad I did it.
And I just remembered I didnt ask to get back the 32t-I will never miss it.
