Default Now i can compare......

This past spring while my bike was down and I was recovering from a triple bypass I had quite a bit done to my bike. 1 of the things done was the addition of the Samson 39" truduals. I had seen that there were those who had heat issues with them especially on the left side pipe that runs up and under your left thigh. I went proactive and had the 3 head pipes that are under the heat shields ceramic coated with the silver/chrome coating. I was not able to comment though on the difference between them being coated verses not coated though. Well I am here back in Ohio visiting family and my brother had his bike together so I went over to see it and to ride it. 1st, the parts of his pipes that are visible from under the shields looks like ****. Mine has 2200 miles on them and they look like they were just put on. 2nd, there is much more heat coming off of his pipes then what comes off of mine. For the 125.00 that it cost me to have them done I can now say it was money well spent and I am VERY glad I did it. I couldn't imagine riding around all day, especially in stop and go traffic without the ceramic coating on them.

I like it so much that when I get back home I am going to dig my Python 2 into 1 pipe out, strip them down and take them apart and I am going to take those head pipes in to get them done too so that if and when I ever go to use it again it is done and ready to go. I know they are further away from any of my body parts so I am not affected by the heat coming off of them so much but that ugly bluing **** will be gone too. IMHO it is a cheap fix for heat and that ugly azz bluing that goes on. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is considering getting it done.

Good info to have...thank you.

I have noticed the heat coming off my Sampson TD's. Does not bother me, but definitely know it's right there under the left thigh. But you're right about the the little shield not hiding the header too well.

Where did you get yours coated at?

Yeah thanks man! I'll have to remember this if I make the plunge on duals. I'm having a hard time with that because I LOVE the way my V&H sound. V&H makes TD's but they are a bit short for my taste. I want to add hard bags and like the look of duals under them so I'm torn. I haven't had the chance to hear Samson in person. Only on YouTube vids so I can't justify the swap. Hopefully I'll hear some one day.

I got them done at CPC powder coatings in Crest hill Ill., just north of Joliet il. They did a very good job too. When I picked mine up they were done by a new hire at the shop. I found a small area the guy had missed and when I showed the guy who runs the shop he took them right back and redid all 3 of them, not just the one with the defect. He said if this one had a defect he doesn't trust the job that was done to all 3 of them so he redid all 3 of them, no questions asked. I can't believe how they still look. That surprises me more than the job it does of holding the heat down on them. They really look like they just came out of the shop and was installed. I HATE THAT BLUING CRAP!!!

First off, I wish you well in your recovery and future good health.

I run V&H duals on my Fatboy. Captain Itch Crotch Cooler solved the heat problem on my left leg.

Thanks for the tips on the heat as far as the Captain crotch thing. I can't use one because I have an oil pressure gauge that is affixed to the top of the rear rocker box. If I used one I couldn't read my pressure gauge. Allot of things on my bike has been pretty well thought out. Whatever I used, I used for a reason. If I went with something it was for a reason.

tbone,

Adding a Captain Itch Crotch Cooler with a rocker box mounted gauge is not a problem however it does require a little trimming of the leather. Attached are a couple photos.

Originally I was worried that the Crotch Cooler would hamper air circulation and cooling of the rear cylinder but by monitoring my oil temperature dip stick, I only found a 2 degree increase during the hottest months of the year and I live in the Philippines.

The Crotch Cooler works as advertized and I should have purchased one long ago.
