Well... It was location I had the switch in the circuit. Apparently you cannot switch the main power source after the controller relay is activated. I'll be switching it at the H4 connector instead.

Next problem... When I flip on the high beams it comes on and goes back to low beam as if i were flashing it. I'm charging the battery in case it's a low voltage issue, can't start the bike cause i don't have the tank back on yet

Low beam...

For those wondering about dissipating heat from the ballast... It gets HOT

If its a bi-zenon magnetic mechanical hi/lo then something is causing it to switch when energized so polarity is still a possible cause since a system can be positively or negitively switched.

It wouldnt be voltage I dont think, there is an amp spike when the lamp ignites but after that it is stable with a draw less than halogen.

It is a bi-xenon bulb indeed. I flipped the connector @ the ballast around, turned power on and the light did not ignite. When I turned the high beam switch I could hear the bulb move, but would still move back to the low beam position immediately after. I guess I'll be playing with it some more after work tomorrow

I might be getting closer to the root cause. I think the issue is coming from the "HD-LAN" CANBUS system on the bike. I believe it monitors the high-beam circuit and when it's energized it sends a computer error code due to a lack of resistive load, thinking the bulb is burnt out (if it were a stock halogen). The bike returns the signal back to the low beam state. This is the same battle we fight with LED's on the CANBUS system. I may have to add a resistor into the high beam circuit to trick the bike there is a halogen there. If that doesn't work I may see if my dealer will hook up their "digitech" and program it to accept the lower resistance. Stupid bikes are getting too smart...

Nice find! I attached the info for future use when someone else has the same problem. I'll be picking up a 50W/6 Ohm resistor to test this theory out.

HID are great lights, but are not practical when needing the high beam. I have used them with my sportbike over the years, other than the lack of instant on with the high beam, they are great.

Before the HID lights, I started with the LED, but did not like the polka dot effect from the ones available at the time. Now there are LED bulbs using cree 1.5w SMD leds that get rid of that polka dot effect. Here is what I mean by the polka dot effect, brighter than the 55w standard bulb, can't really be seen too well with the eye, but very noticeable with the camera. OLD style LED is on the bottom -

I had purchased some LED's that use the cree for my passing lamps, and they blow away the new HID that was installed not too long ago. I am now waiting for the headlight led to arrive. Best part, they were about $15 shipped for the pair for the passing lamps Being LED lights, they use very little wattage, so there is less strain on the electrical system. The pics do not do them justice, as they are brighter than they show -
