Pulled The Trigger On A 21" Front Wheel, Couple Questions
Hello everyone,
I came across a smoking deal on a new 21x3.5 Ultima wheel on Ebay this morning. Not really doing much research before hand on fitting a 21" wheel under my stock fender on my 2000 Fatboy, turns out i'm going to have to do a little modifying to make it fit (which is no biggie). I've seen tons of pics of Softails with 21's, I just assumed they would bolt right on.
So anyways, turns out i'm going to need a pair of fender lifting brackets to accommodate the 21" wheel.
What i'd like to know is, is anyone here running the WhiteWall Vee rubber tires in a 21 with the stock fender? If so how do you like the tire? Does anyone have pics of a 21" wheel with the stock fender. When I say stock, i'm referring to the Fatboy fender (which will only accommodate a 18" wheel?)
Yea, I thought about changing my fender over to one off a Heritage but my bike is custom painted and it would be nothing but a hassle. I'm just hoping the brackets don't make it look goofy.
I am running a 21 x3.5 on the front of my deluxe stock fender with no modification I do not know much about the fanboy but there was no issue with it hitting or any thing like that. One thing I can tell you was that the ride wright wheel I got was suppose to go right on but as usual it did not it had to be machined to fit. As far as the vee rubber the one they sent me was a mess jagged edge on the white wall and the white was not that white this was about two years ago they may have gotten better as time went on. I can only speak from my experience with them back then there were a lot of problems with them I would hope they have ironed them out by now we need them 21 inch white walls
Have you since changed from the Vee Rubber tire, is there someone else you recommend?
Search Vee 21 on here. you will get plenty of info. I am running one now. I dont have issues but they dont seem to last as long as other industry leaders tires.
As far as I know there is no alternative available unless you want to stretch a 90.
Also for Deluxe and Heritage there is no fender mod but it sounds like you have a good lead on brackets.
I went through Diamond Back Radials for custom white walls for a 21X3.5 fat spoke wheel. www.dbtires.com. Ask for Tab. They take a metzler, perilli, and there are a couple of different options; bond a white wall to the side. They do good work but you'll pay a little more than a $100 over the stock tire price for their work. But you'll know you have a good tire.

Last I heard Tab wasn't taking orders anymore but that was in the spring, maybe hes back in business now. I heard the Diamond Back price was almost $400 towards the end.

Well, I had to call and find out since I just bought a set of custom white walls from them in February. James told me that lawyers apparently got invovled because when they bond the white wall they cover or remove the DOT information on the tire (PSI, Max Load, etc.). He said they are working on a new product and may be back online in the spring.
I hope they get this worked out because I would much rather have a set of metzlers or perillis over Vee.
