Hey Hermann, good to hear from you. The darn thing just blew out like a cannon shot after I washed the bike and was gonna start it up to dry the wet mufflers. On both of our Deluxes the dipstick was never a tight fit. Seems as the miles go by, the fit is getting so loose that the only way to keep the dipstick in the hole is to run the motorcycles with those "crotch coolers" that fit under the seat to block the cylinder heat. They lay on top of the dipstick so it can't go anywhere.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm gonna try the o-ring cure and then stock up on some self amalgamating tape just in case.

JES Customs makes some great (but a bit pricey) analog oil dipsticks. I have a couple on my Softails. Easy to read while riding, high quality, accurate, and an excellent fit. SJ Ron

I agree with the others that have said the same: it sounds like the oil is overfilled to me.

Buy an "O"-ring kit that has a variety of sizes, and you can`t go wrong. My kit has saved my butt many times.

I've never had mine ('10 Heritage) blow out but I get the seepage. It's not overfilled either--actually some of the Nervous Nellies on here would freak if they saw how far down in the normal range my oil usually runs. I would say I probably need a new dipstick, because it takes very little effort to remove it.
