Default Exile Open Primary Making a grinding noise! Plz help!

My pride n joy has just about let me down today. I have a 2007 Fxst with a 117 ci twin cam and ExileOpen Primary... I rode around all day n stopped at my brother's house. She had some loose mud n dirt so I sprayed her off with a water hose after she cooled down. When I went to leave there was a grinding/slipping clatter coming from the primary front side when I let off the clutch. I thought it was just the belt slipping bc I had gotten it wet. It stopped until I got down on it on the highway n it went away very quickly so again thought it was the belt. Rode about 60-70 miles n it got to where it wouldn't catch past 2500 rpm...limped her home. WTH could it be? Any serious input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any experience with open primaries but if it were mine, and there weren't any missing teeth on the primary belt, I would be checking the clutch adjustment. If it's slipping above 2500 RPM, I would think the clutch has an issue. Just my 2 cents...

Sounds like your pressure plate backed off. Not sure what kind that kit uses.

My thoughts exactly...I was thinking clutch adjustment but wanted a little reassurance since I've already panicked. I appreciate the input, good advice. Thanks guys.

Lol yea man. Not just the looks of the OP but the transfer of power and the bike runs a lot cooler with it. I was worried when my engine got bumped up to 117ci that it would struggle in town but between the OP and tank lift it runs cooler than the 107 ci I had. I'm pleased with it. This is the first trouble I've had with it other than buying jeans all the time lol
