just noticed that the paint on my oil tank {2006 night train wrinkle black finish } is bubbleing ...lifting like it has rust under it
this is a section 3inch long by about 1/4 of a inch wide
went down to day to my dealer and he says he has to send in the claim in and see if it get approved or not
my question is
does the paint work get the 24 month warranty like the rest of the bike
the dealer tried to tell me paint work is only 6 months ??
thnx
I'm not sure but I think the 6 month thing is for blemishes. I you are certain that brake fluid didn't drip on it from your front brake MC, ask to see the factory rep and let him decide. Don't just take no for an answer.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Believe me I deal with enough people complaining on a day to day basis that I does work. I agree with TheGeek ask to talk to the dealer rep and just keep going higher and higher. Typically someone will figure this is costing them more money to have to keep talking to you than it will to fix it.
I guess Im not alone, I just posted about the same thing then saw this, mine is peeling on my 05 Night train, Im heading to the shop after work. I'll let you know what happens.
I have an '05 Deuce with the custom blue/silver paint scheme (59 of 200; as seen here: https://www.hdforums.com/upfiles/821...y894333089.jpg) and it's develpoing rust under the clear coat. The dealer here says he is trying to contact "big" Harley and see if it is covered by the factory warranty (I bought it Sep '05, new) and can be replaced/repaired. He also stated that since the silver andblue clear coats, that give the tins that swirl/wave appearance, are just a clear coat over the tank with no sealer that there is no way to fix it and they would have to get a whole new set. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what "big" Harley says.
My biggest issues are:
1) Shouldn't the warranty cover this without extra cost to me?
2) Since they only did 200 of these, they probably won't be able to findanother set of them;
3)I spent that much money on the extra custom paint, at the time of purchase, shouldn't I get something just as rare/custom as the original set? Or am I expecting too much?
I got awesome news yesterday! The dealership here told me that Harley is covering the repair/repainting of my tins. It may be some time before I can ride again, but I'd rather have it fixed right than not at all.
On a side note, if any of you are ever in Hawaii (Oahu) and need bike service, I recommend South Seas Harley above all others. They're extremely helpful and seemed as concerned about fixing any issues as much as I was.
Mine is doing the same thing!!! 06 Train, Wrinkle black powder coat is flaking off the oil tank and there is rust underneath it. I'm still waiting for a response from Harley.
my oil tank looked exactly like yours dietdewboynot good for a 06 model
after waiting a week with no reply from my dealer i rang Harley AUST.
got onto a great guy in the warranty section who flew a rep to my state and approved the replacement of the oil tank
while he was there i told him i would also like the 25 degree injectors {which my dealer refused 12 months ago } the harley rep also approved this
i picked my bike up today and she runs great with the new injectors and stage 1 race map far more responsive than the 8 degree and dfo i had on ....
so apart from having to go over the head of my dealer and waiting 2 weeks for a oil tank to come from the USA everything went smoothly lol
