I have recently purchased a new Harley Breakout. I have invested a ton in this bike getting it the way I wanted. I simply can't get past one issue in particular. Without a windshield the stock bike with drag handlebars makes my body become a "sail" so to speak and wants to pull me off the bike. I ordered the quick detach compact sport windshield from HD and really helped. However, I still get wind buffering on the top of my helmet and almost causes your eyes to go blurry it vibrates your head so badly. ALSO, it seems to make it even worse on a passenger. She says all the wind seems to deflect directly on to her chest and face. Has anyone had any experience for other solutions to this? Different shield?
I do have the upgraded Sundowner seats front and rear which makes the passenger a little taller. But she said it also happens with the stock rear seat as well.
What are you wearing while riding? What type of helmet if any are you using?
When I wear a non vented or non mesh jacket I get the same thing. when I don't wear a jacket or wear my mesh vented jacket I don't have the issue. Also if you wear a helmet that has any king of lip or visor on it that could cause this also

I've tried multiple combinations actually. Half helmet and full face Aria. I've tried vented mesh and full leather jacket. It is worse with full leather. Passenger issue is the same no matter what I wear. Head buffering is the same also.
I ride w/o any windshield or fairing on my Breakout with stock bars and seats. The fastest I was going so far was about 90 mph - only for short distances as my preferred cruising speed is about 55 mph. Of course you will have wind pressure on your head (helmet) and chest. But so far I didn't experience significant buffeting.
I'm 6'4'' myself and never have the feeling I would be blown off the bike to be honest. My OL is 5'2'' and feels quite comfortable as she's almost completely protected from the wind by me. I wear a 3/4 Jet helmet with riding glasses. It's loud but it's not buffeting either.
Maybe your windshield makes it even worse as it's pushing the air/wind upwards causing heavy turbulence right behind the top edge. And that's exactly where your head is.
I have worn many helmets over the years- the Nexx helmets are fantastic, their shape eliminates any wind buffeting. also super light weight and comfy, good venting, no air leaks. you need to be more of a Shoei head than an Arai head. oh and the flat black Nexx looks absolutely sick- especially with the dark tinted face shield. the Nexx also has the widest field of view.

You may be right about the windshield making it worse. I tried riding about 15 miles on the highway last night with no shield, full face and leather jacket and it was manageable, but not comfortable. didn't feel completely stable with the amount of wind I was having to manage. I want comfort for long cruises to the beach or something. Then be able to remove shield all together.
I will say you are right about the wind buffeting, that has actually been ok for me- probably just used to it after years of riding bikes with no fairing. the only thing I am not liking on the Breakout is the rear suspension is really bouncy and downright unnerving at high speed. I'm probably going to have to look into upgrading the rear shocks.

I agree. It is bouncy and/or "lose" feeling on the highway. I've noticed it is 100% better and a different bike with a passenger. Love how it rides with a passenger.
