Am I asking for trouble

I am going to remove my main outer primary cover and paint it - I was going to reuse the gasket and re use the oil because my 1000 service is 3 days away. Is this a bad idea?

Why not wait till after the service is done?

Why not just tell them what you wanted to do so they could just give you the cover while they were working on the bike?
