Default 1st Harley

I've always had a desire to have a Harley but there was always something else that came up. I'm now a little more focused and I am trying to save my money to buy a Springer. I have always like the appeal of a springer front fork and how the bike looked and felt when I sat on it. I was wondering if there are any others out there that have chosen the Springer and what do you think of it?

That seems to be a common history for a lot of us. Keep saving away and you'll get there. Meanwhile, just sit back, relax and have a good time here.

I liked the Springer for its looks and ride. However, when I recently traded bikes, I got a Softail Standard for a few reasons. It was $3,000 less money, the Standard had the look I wanted and in '05, they changed the handlebars on the Springer and they didn't fit me as well. You can't go wrong with any of the HD's. Welcome and have fun.

I know what you mean by changing the handlebars. Years ago when I first became interested in the Springer, I believe that they had what was called buckhorn handlebars. I liked the way that they felt when I sat on the bike. The handlebars that they have on the new Springers just don't feel right to me, but I can fix that.

I hear you about the bars... I will no doubt be putting mini-apes or buckhorns on my (coming soon) Night Train at some point. The drag bars put me in a too forward leaning position for my taste, and since I plan on many long trips, would be too uncomfortable for me.

Cheers!

What makes you think I have a great mind? HAHAHA!! Kidding (I'm a little drunk right now!).

Yeah, I guess it depends what you're looking for as a rider. I'm sure the drag bars would be fine for short trips tooling around town, and they DO look really mean, but I will be putting MILES on this baby, and quickly, so I need to be comfortable!

And yes we DO have great minds, damnit!

Cheers!

This is getting more interesting all the time. I was trying to picture in my mind what I would do to change the bars on the Springer and I came up with the same two ideas, the factory apes or buckhorns. Imagine that, just became a member and already have similiar thoughts as others have. Strange.

Does the Springer ride different going down the road than the other bikes? Being it has a spring fork. I'm assuming that the springs are for suspension.

Well I've never ridden a springer but from what I've heard a springer ride's smooth as silk until you hit a big bump and the front end travel's as far as it can, see I think that's the only down fall to the front end.
