I have had my springer for 6 years now and love the ride. I have had a FXSTC also and obviously it has more travel in the front. I lower all my bikes. I have mine lowered 1 1/2 in the front and 2 in the rear now and it does not ride as well as stock but looks very nice and I can live with the ride. I raise the rear for long trips with the wife on. I change bars on every bike I get. 18" apes on it now with custom risers 1 1/2".
From what I have heard about the springer is at higher speeds the front end vibrates more.
If you choose to change the bars I would go with the mini apes they are much more comfortable than the buckhorns. The buckhorns felt like my hands were on my knees.
Actually, kind of an ***-backwards story as to how I chose the springer. Knew I could finally get another bike (used to ride Jap), and knew it was gonna be a hog. Began dreaming and droolingover harley's website, and fell in love with the chopper blue pearl two-tone paint job. Since only a few bikes offer that, my decision was basically already made for me. Once i saw one at the local stealership, I was in LOVE with the FXSTSI's looks, lines, front end, and oh yeah, the color. I get her in just ONE FRIGGIN MONTH, so let the sleepless nights begin........tick tock tick tock
I love the looks of a springer front end. I think a really stretched out chopper looks best with a springer front end, and I really love the Heritage Springer. Im sure it is interesting to what it work as you ride.
Have not had it on the road yet, I take delivery real soon. Yes, I bought without ever having ridden a Springer. I had ridden an '05 FXDL with forwrd controls, so all in all the dimensions were similar to teh FXSTSI. I have a good idea what the ride itself is going to be like, just not the suspension. I'll let you know real soon, though!!!
Howdy uncle, thanks for the reply, you sound like you are in the same boat that I'm in. I've sat on the Springer a few times and the springer front end is what caught my intention. I hope that you enjoy your new springer and that it was worth the time that you spent getting it.
I have the '05 FLSTSCI and the Springer front end is fantastic out here in AZ. I wouldn't probably enjoy as much if I were in a state where the road buckles from the freeze thaw as much though. With the almost extra hundred pounds it has over the fatboy it is a very nice ride.
My last bike was an 89 FLHS w/front and rear air shocks/forks.That bike rode really well but I realized it was not my style.I just bought a 99 Heritage Springer, and can say the ride is great. The bike handles way different than the tourer but it is very comfortable. You will not be disappointed if you get a Springer.
