Took my 03 on a 150 mile trip last night and noticed when I hit the highway it the electronic speedometer was only reading 40 but I had to be doing 60...when I got up to 70-80 it was only reading 50. On the way home from the drag strip same thing, reading slow. I'm always careful to wait for the speedo to move and the lights to go off before I start the bike. Oddly enough, the odometer was spot on (I happen to know exactly how far the drag strip is from my house...as I should as I've driven it over 1000 times).
I fixed it by removing the speed sensor cleaning the schmutz off if it. It had kind of a foamy layer of oil on it.
For good measure I changed the tranny fluid as well using HD fluid, popped in the sensor, and good to go.
Thought I would share the fix in case this happens to someone else.
Thx, good knowledge. My old sprint had no speedo, so didnt have that problem with it. I would always get behind someone that looked like they were doing the speed limit and carried on.
