I think the buffeting can be worse for tall riders given the same shield setup.

Interested in what you came up with. I also installed a fairing and would like some ideas.

I have an 01 Heritage with the standard windshield and with me being 6'2, I am getting pounded with the buffeting....think I am going to look into either a recurve windshield to see if that helps.

Cut my shield twice,, now down to 18'' ... that didn't help... now looking at some fangs and a new 21'' shield..

I have a 2004 Standard with a 17" Harley removable shield. The updraft was a killer until I added a set of Memphis Shades lowers (since they don't make fangs for the FXST).

Initial estimate, 20 miles at 60 MPH, 90-percent of the updraft is gone.

Can second that. Had the same problem, and the fangs cured it.

I started riding around 1969, and have tried just about everything on the planet.
What I've found to work best is no windshield, and a full-face helmet.

Not all full-face helmets are created equal, so good to ask around.

If you're worried about feeling wimpy wearing a helmet, might want to spend a few sessions with a mental health professional. All racers wear helmets, and so do most riders of really fast street bikes. The most noteworthy exceptions are those riding slowish bikes. Why not just stick a patch on your sleevelest leather vest saying, "Yup, I'm pretty slow" ?

Fangs are definitely the best money I've spent on the bike. Takes a little getting used to the look but make a huge difference in the comfort of the ride. $99 isn't a lot to spend for the for the benefit of not feeling like you are in a wind storm.
