I have had a 1996 fatboy and currently have a 2008 fatboy. The 96 model had the evo engine. I certainly like the extra power with the 2008 model. Both bikes were stock.

How much are they ? Evo bikes are said by many as being bullet proof, certainly no Camm tensioners to worry about, spares may be a problem with the Evo plus if your not handy with a wrench you'll need to find a good indie as Harley Dealerships usually don't want to know about them.

That's the only problem I really ever had with the twin cam is the tensioners luckily I caught it just before it was major problem.

Hard to say which to go for ones older but with less milage, I've had both an Evo and an 88 twin Camm no trouble with either, apart from a broken return spring in the gearbox of the Evo, gotta say I am a fan of the Evo's and wished they stilled made them, you could go by price, go for which ever owner will drop the price the most.

The make Evo's on the Sportsters, does that help? No? didn't think so.

Depends on what you're in to. My personal opinion, I love my FatBoy Lo (2010), but when I see an Evo FatBoy rolling down the boulevard, I always turn my head to look at it. Just something 'classic' about those bikes.

Also you could post in the Evo Forum, but know doubt they'll all say go for the Evo, although they'll be able to let you know what to look out for and if there were any problems with that particular year.

I'd go for the 03. Its a balanced motor therefore smoother. Which is probably why it has more miles. It's a 100,000 mile motor if taken care off. Just make sure the cam tensioners get checked/replaced.

Although I am biased I have an 03 Fatboy and out of my five bikes it is my favorite and will be with me forever.
