Default Gas gauge removal on Fatboy

I am painting the tins on a Fatboy and need to remove the gas gauge. What is the best way to go about it without destroying it. Thanks, Dave

It's pretty easy. I removed mine to install the billet skull gauge on my fatboy. If you are just removing it to paint, the do the following:

look on left underside of tank and you will see wires coming out of the bottom of the tank. They run through a clip on the tank and then through another on the frame and into a plug. You should be able to pull enough slack (be gentle) to get a pick or tiny screw driver into the plug to remove the wire terminals (put the pick in the gauge plug, not the plug for the main harness). There will be little tabs you need to compress to remove the terminals from the plug. Once this is done, you should be able to pull the gauge out of the tank by gently pulling on the gas guage from the top. The wires should feed through the small hole in the tank and then out. To reinstall just do the reverse of these steps. You should not have to cut the wires for removal.

good luck

It's the HD diamond back seat w/ chrome tail section. I got the seat and tail section for about $130.00 from zanottimotor.com. It's a lot more comfortable than the stock seat.

thanks for the compliment, I took the air wing horn cover and my a/c cover to the powdercoater today. They will be gloss black by the end of the week.

Keep up the great work with your bike. I really like the black sproket surrounded by the chrome guards.
