Default Gas Guage replacement question

2007 FLSTC

Someone decided to mess with the gas gauge on my bike. The gauge is turned sideways and the lens is busted.

Does anyone know if it just pops off and easy to replace? Does the wiring just plug into the back of the gauge or does the tank have to be removed to plug it inside the tank?

You remove the plug and pull the wiring through the tank. Do a forum search. I remember someone posting a Youtube link about a year ago. It was much better than my try at explaining how to remove the leads.

The whole assembly just pops out. The wiring goes through the tank and plugs in underneath along the backbone of the fame. You might have to unbolt the tank and lift it up a couple inches to access the plug.

With a broken dial I can see why you would to replace it. I would just because the dial was cracked/broke, other than that I never look at my fuel gauge only the trip odometer.

It pops right up out of the tank, but you have to remove the wires from the plug to completely remove it. The service manual describes how to remove the wires - basically a pick from the back in the right spot and they pull out. I've done it and it wasn't very hard. Once you understand how they come out it's easy from then on. I took a pic to make sure I got them back in the right holes.

You might be able to loosen the front bolt on the tank and remove the rear bolt and lift up the tank (secure it to the mirror/handlebars with a bungee) to get at the plug. I had my tank off when I did mine so I'm not positive what I wrote will work.
