Wow! I figured the new badges would look good....but Wow! That looks awesome! Can you give us some detail on just how you put em on?
Thanks!
I purchased the emblems the mounting bracket that fits inside the emblem that sticks to the tank and new moulding trim.
Forget the mounting bracket it raises the emblem and creates a gap between the tank and emblem (looks like crap!) Forget the moulding strips they are way to short! All you need to buy is the Emblems and 3M Acrylic plus double sisded tape.
First remove the seat as this helps to get to the moulding were it begins under the tank, I took fishing line ( suggest 50 lbs test) and run it under the molding and gently run it up and down with a gentle pulling motion to the front of the tank.becarefull as you approach each section as the 2 pieces of moulding and existing badge are all seperate and will fall so be ready to catch it as you do not want to scratch them up from hitting the floor.T I then with a rolling motion of my thumm rolled off the existing tape then cleaned it with alcohol to remove any residue then cleaned with mild soapy water and dried the surface.
i am now ready to apply the emblem and moulding back on
1) place 3M tape on the front moulding that you removed and line it up and place it exactly where you removed it from, press firmly and run your thumb applying pessure along the entire strip. The strip should be centered to where the line separating the 2 colors is even above and below ( for solid color tanks I would mark with a pencil the location for reference
2) Take the emblem (do not use the mounting bracket dont even but it!) place the emblem on the tank and but it up against the current moulding you already applied check for fit and flushness against the tank you will need to gently conform a little at a time and recheck be patient and slow barley making slight manipulations to the emblem with your fingers and your led to gently mould it to the correct fir. its not hard but be carefull and dont worry it's metal just be careful not to buckle itnear the edges,
Place 2 strips of the 3M tape from one end to the other on top of each other this fills the void in the badge and gives it the ability to adhere to the badge and then the tank. Pace the front edge of the emblem centered aginst the moulding already in place and press firmly asuring alignment then apply pressure again in the center ( basicaly along the printed word harley davidson on the emblem as this is wher th tape is)
3) take the rear moulding that runs from the back of the emblem to the remaining rear of the tank, place the moulding at the end point where the tank meets the frame which is hidden by the seat place it as if you were test fitting it and hold it up to the emblem As you will see you have to much moulding mark where it should fall with a marker and using a hack saw or other device of your choice and cut off the excess. using a fine file smooth the edges and check the fit, if everything is on target then apply the tape and adhere the last piece to the tank!
4) Clean all residue and apply wax to the tank and emblem to replace the wax you removed with the alcohol buff to a lovley sheen and your done!
5) repeat steps 1-4 on the opposite side
That's it!
Badges look like they came on there.
Definetly fit the bike and tank better than the factory ones did.
Just when I think your bike can't look any better...
Thanks for the detailed write-up as well.

Hey, Trauma: You didn't happen to snap a pic of your tank without the moulding on it, did you?
