My first suggestion for Beale Street would be to go to Memphis, not Nashville.
I was there two weeks ago. Check out the ribs at BB kings and make sure you catch Richard Johnston playing outside the movie theater. He is a one man band playing guitar (cigar box), drums, and singing all at the same time. It was very impressive.
If you see the cop on the little scooter, dont ask him any questions unless you are prepared to have a 30 minute conversation.......
Thanks AZ I was down there about 5 yrs ago, we did a tour with a bike and that was one of the places (Beale)that we showed it. It reminded me of Rush Street in Chicago. I was wondering of there were any cool things to do during the day time, places to ride and see.
Rode the bikes through there a couple of years ago....The richard Johnston dude is incredible.....actually bought both cd's his wife or girlfriend was selling.......Beale street is pretty good, but if you have Thur. - Sun. I would make a trip to Nashville, go to printers alley, true alley with some bars. Being from Houston, all of Tennessee was heavenly riding, so I wouldn't sit in Memphis, I would travel the awesome backroads up there....
It's a shame you're not going to be here Wednesday...They close off Beale St. to cage traffic and only allow bikes to park there. It gets PACKED! Two city blocks with bikes lined up both sides, with blues music, beer and women! Makes for a memorable experience!
SUN music studio. they have some interesting factoids on rock and roll and biographies on the folks that started it all.....
ribs with dry rub ,tunica if you want to waist some time gambling....
When we there in Dec 07, we ask the locals where the best ribs were. They sent us to Blues City Cafe. They were the best we had anywhere on Beale. You should check out Rum Boogie too. Good music Some of the guys that did the Theme from "Shaft" were performing at Rum Boogies. Its was great. No crowds in Dec.
BB Kings Blues Bar & Dueling Piano Bar are the best on Beale Street. I recommend Rondevue for ribs (it's in a basement around the corner from the Peabody Hotel). Marriott Residence Inn is the best for the money.
