I am going to the Smokies and Maggie Valley in May. The last time I was there was 2008. However in 2006 or 07 we were driving next to a river on one side of the road and shear rock on the other side. We came to a fairly new visitor center that had 2 levels with the lower level next to the river with a gift shop on that level as well. We couldn't find it in 2008. Anyone have an idea of what I'm talking about based on the sketchy description and where this is? I believe we saw a lot of rafting chase vehicles. Any info will be appreciated.

Sorry I cant help you I have been all over the place around there and I don't have a clue where you are describing. I know there are a lot of river rafting places near Maggie Valley maybe you can get on google maps and search the maps for the place you described.
Hope your place is safe from the fire, looking at renting it some time this year..btw is their a limit of the # of people who can stay, just say I have about 10 friends....thanks

Oh yea we are ok pertaining to the fire. It is on the other side of Pigeon Forge. I just feel sorry about the cabin owners as well as the poor people on vacation. But yes we do sorta have a limit and 10 does exceed it. 5 is about the most we can handle comfortably. :-)

Sounds like River Road in the NP. The visitor center would be in Townsend at the Park entrance.
