I was playing around with ride planner tonight and put this together. It needs some fine tuning, but looks like a hell of a good way to blow a Saturday and burn some gas. Comments?
Sections 1 -4 if its what I think it is ...is BORING!!! Very straight. Joe and I rode that last week, I think. (correct me if I'm wrong!)
If I'm reading it correctly, instead of 355th ave to Wickenburg, from Tonopah, take Vulture Mine Trail, don't wait till you're in Wickenburg to pick it up. That is a great section of road. (Unless 355th and Vulture mine are the same thing and I don't know it.)
You also need to do this one when the weather is cooled off some. And don't just post it for PHX... sometimes we get others to join us, and don't want them to feel excluded.
(was that more than 2 cents worth??)
ps...we once bounced around the idea of doing some shorter rides so people like me can get some riding time!!!

Like to join you guys on a ride sometime but that one is 425+ miles. According to the planner, it would take nearly nine hours to complete. And that's without lunch or gas stops so you're talking at least ten hours.
No time for a coke and a smile, or even a cigar...
Thanks for the comments. The cool weather is what got me thinking about this.
Donna, as for sections 1-4 being boring, there just aren't any twisties in that part of town, sorry. Pretty much flat farmland. Tried to stay on the outskirts of town and off the interstates. Route does take Vulture Mine Road into Wickenburg.
Joe, I changed from 85 to old highway 80 from Gila Bend, thanks. I am not familiar with the roads out there. Anything else?
As for the length of the ride, it sure ended up being longer than I thought it would. I chopped off the section by Roosevelt lake, but the alternative kind of sucks and no Jake's corner. That takes it from 425 to 337 miles. From what I hear, the section from Maricopa to Gila Bend is very nice as is the section into Wickenburg. Since I have not done them, I am more hesitant to remove those sections. They can't all be short rides...
Matt... I just want you to know that I'm just throwing out opinions, and not complaining. Probably the first leg of the ride would be good for me... but seriously... BORING!!
Vulture Mine road is awesome between Tonopah and Wickenburg.

We've done a lot of 350 - 600 mile rides all summer. Trust me, we take time to stop. Some breaks are longer than others. Some breaks are gas, water, go. Some are water a tree (the guys), smoke 'em if you got 'em, and go, and some are a nice long lunch, or pool and beer. Some of these rides have started at 7 am and ended around 8 or 9 pm.
I don't have the endurance to ride my own bike that long, so I am looking forward to shorter rides so I can improve my skills.
Hope you can join us soon. This Sunday a bunch of us are doing the Poker Run to benefit the Phx Zoo. (see that thread here in the SW Forum.)

That's also doing the speed limit. Oops, did I say that?
You are correct, it would be a long day. I can do those every now and then.
