I worked in the defence industry for much of my life, even on manufacturing helicopter engines at one time! If your engine surfaces, where the gaskets contact, are clean and free of all traces of muck, old gaskets etc, you should be fine. Cometic sell their gasket sets to install in stock engines, on stock machined surfaces. Them mentioning surface finish has caused you a regrettable distraction I fear! It would have been better if they hadn't printed that bit.....

Hope that helps.

Haven't known anyone that actually went to prison, though that's something that is certainly possible, but in the Army there were a few that got extra duty and reprimands, including a pilot that overtorqued a transmission avoiding a copter ahead of him that did the actual screwup. Made me feel guilty I told him about the overtorque; being conscientious, he reported it. Mechanics in the airline industry tended to get little slap on the wrists, like a few days off without pay, for even major screwups; part of that was probably unions that always tried to get them off the hook. Sometimes the companies got fined, and a few times that was in the millions. Was non union in my last few years, and then guys got fired for little things, but still, no jail time. All of the ones I know of that actually produced casualties were due to improper procedures management was responsible for; might be why legal charges were never filed against them. I know of one guy (another company I never worked for) that was investigated, but cleared because even though he did it wrong, he did it per company procedure. So again, company fined, nobody held personally responsible for several fatalities. That's business...

I work with the ******* who caused the Concorde to be permanently grounded.
No jail, but about 5 years dealing with lawyers, and the French government. Couldn't leave the USA without the French police arresting him.
Now the ******* has the ***** to sue the company for not having his back.

yea it probably would have been better if they just showed a diagram of where the stuff goes instead of putting in that tidbit.

as long as you follow procedure oh yea, even if its wrong youre still clear. the times i can recall is when a bellcrank failed off a 46 because it wasnt NDI'ed, last i heard he went to the brig, not sure if that was holding or waiting for other things to come. 2 guys from oki went away for failing to secure the pin that holds a 53 tail in place, folded in flight, main rotor cut the tail clean off, helicopter bounced off the top of a dorm, landed in the street. no one died, but that 53 tail tranny went through 3 parked cars. love that helicopter.

and my personal experience, i was questioned by a few investigators when a refueling hose came off a C130, full of JP8 and landed in the east china sea. all i had to tell them was im I-level, i dont attach the hose, and i was clear. thank god.

thank you too elfnyc, ill bother my machinist for a profilometer. if not, ill convince marketing that we need to expense one for the shop...for reasons.

on another side completely unrelated note...anyone know where i can get a more illustrated parts breakdown for my model carb. i took out the shutter, and now i forgot what placement these thin washers and felt washers go in. and the manual doesnt show it broke down that far. woops.

Weird thing happened. I posted a reply to another thread and I ended up here. Must be a COVID-19 problem.

It's that damn related thread area that shows up if you scroll the screen too far. I did the same thing the other day. I have seen in the "forum" forum some guy asking if it can be removed.
