Hi Guys, I have a 2003 Sportster with spoke wheels, want to change them to cast wheels to get away from tubes, loose spokes and more for the ease of cleaning and looks. Like the cast over the wires.
Fellow biker has a 19 front and a 16 rear off a 1999 Dyna with 3/4 inch axles bearings are in the wheels. Thinking I could buy his wheels and then sell mine for more than he wants for his wheels.
What do you guys think? Not about the looks, it's my bike, just your knowledge of the facts of will it fit or not.
Course any other problems I might run across in the swap, will my disks fit etc.
Thanks
Jim
I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye! His wheels will definitely have tapered roller bearings, while yours are sealed ball races. I'm also pretty certain that the big twin rear wheels have much wider hubs than Sporties. Your rotors and rear pulley will not fit the earlier wheels without adapters, because the holes in the centre of yours are larger than his.
It can probably be done, but not as a quick swap. Much easier to look out for cast wheels from a similar year Sporty.
Got to get some new pictures of the Bike up on the forum, this is the way it was when I bought it at Lawless HD in Scott City Mo. Made several changes already, new seat, chrome battery cover chrome ignition cover, got the service manual, put a GPS on it. But right now we have 12 inches of snow, and more forecasted, gonna kill me a ground hog
Picture is now after I changed a few things.

00-03 dyna/sportster mags are the same/ 99 and older are different due to bearing type. You can change the bearings and inner spacer sleeves pretty easy, but it would be a direct swap if you just found a set of 00 and later wheels.

What he said, can be done but a ton of extra unnecessary work when sourcing the correct year mags should be relatively simple. Lots of them on Flea-bay and Craigscam.

Thanks Shiftace, but gonna have to wait a while I think, don't want to break the wife's piggy bank
Hey got a new picture in my signature of the sporty, she's starting to come around to what I want. You can't really see it but got the GPS mounted on the bars, and have Bluetooth in our helmets so we can listen to music from the GPS or the phone.
I'm looking at a 1200 kit for her in the not to distant future I think.
Thanks again
