Default 48 1" riser + new bars install

I was trying to find the original thread that discussed the risers and then someone suggested the 883r bars instead. I did BOTH so figured I'd write an update in case anyone is on the fence with this mod.

I originally tired the 1 inch risers (Loner Industries) with the stock bars but the comfort only lasted so long before my being in the "clamshell" position (I have forward controls) got the better of my body. I decided to put on the sporster bars from an 883R (part# 56085-83A), which are slightly higher, wider and swept back as well. And KEPT the risers on.

The initial feeling of my hands being in a wider position were awesome. Probably only about 4 inches total but quite significant. Turns were smoother and easier, as well as cruising. The bars brought me up and back to a position that is just more comfortable. Since the bars were wider too, the vibrations actually lessened significantly enough that I'm not planning to get any bar weight inserts (like I had on my previous bars). I even got rid of my Kuryakin ISO grips and put my Performance Machine ones back on

I highly recommend doing this mod if you're uncomfortable with your positioning. I'm 5'5 and I also currently have reduced reach controls and a reduced reach seat. It's spot on perfect positioning for me.

I'd post pics but you can't really see the visual difference - but trust me you'll feel it instantly.

what? you mean you don't enjoy having your elbows constantly hitting you knees?
i know how you feel, i switched from a 6 inch riser to a 1 inch riser with the 8883c bars and feel a bit too clammy. i sorta do like being able to use my knees as armrests though.
im glad you found a good riding position.
