When I bought my 09 nightster it had no front turn signals/running lights. I bought new front blinkers, pins and connector. Had the dealer put the pins on the wires. 3 wires each blinker, blue, black, violet. Found the original connector under the fuel tank. Got the pins in the new connector. Plugged it in, turned key to ignition and the left blinker barely lit up. Right one worked fine. Then after some fiddling with the new connector.. I turned the key back on and could hear a slight ticking noise from under the seat area and the left blinker quick flashed in sync with the ticking noise. Unplugged the new connector. Took bike around the block. Runs fine. Plugged new blinker connector back in. No front blinkers at all now. No ticking sound. So confused. Rear lights all work fine.
Any ideas?
Im not particularly familiar with the bike. Generally speaking i would look for the relay the controls the blinkers. It probably cooked.
Sometimes if the voltage of the blinker does not meet the specifications of the relay it can cause all sorts of wierd issues. My aprilia has a similar issue, I have 12v blinker bulbs but it requires 8v or 5v, the result is that clicking sound you mentioned..
I would check the fuse first, then the TSM (turn signal module). If you find one of them compromised (which is almost assured from what you described), then before replacing, I would use a voltmeter to check the turn signals and the wiring for a crossed wire or a short. Otherwise you may have a repeat.
