Iv got a 09 Sportster and want to put the tallest apes that will fit with the stock cables. And get rid of the ugly riser on it now, the speedo will have to be delt with too....
Has anybody done this before or know what is the shortest risers and tallest bars would fit. I like the Road 6 hollyroller 10" bars but unsure about the risers.
Thanks
I think the stock riser looks awesome, It was actually a feature that sold me on a custom sportster, it looks much better than the cheap looking set-up on the new wide glides., that's just 2 pieces of round stock bolted onto a triple tree. looks cheap..
that stock riser would look good with some mini-apes.
that's just my opinion,
You might be able to find some universal ones from jpcycles if that's really what you want to do. or maybe some take-off ones from ebay.
That's messed up the way they did the riser, clamp, speedo. I would get the bars you want with some 1" risers. But I'm not sure what to do with the speedo. There has to be an after market housing you can switch out the speedo and clamp with. Some people mount the speedo on the side of the frame but I don't care for that much. You might have to lengthen your brake line but that's easy at your local hydraulic hose shop. Maybe have to cut some zip ties on the blinker wires but not bad. Take the time and set it up right and the way you want it. Hopefully someone will reply that has that same setup.
I think you could get a OEM riser from a Sportster superLow or 48 which includes the speedo Housing which is more like what you want.. the superlow actually comes with ape bars stock.

so many people do the speedo relocation on their 48's & sightseers that these things should be everywhere.. maybe post in the parts wanted forum and you could probably get one real cheap.
You might be able to re-use your indicator light assembly but I wouldn't bet on it.

It's been done. If you found a take-off assembly, it'd be convenient and probably cheaper, but the parts are available, new, from your dealer.
Check this thread.

I put 10"in minis on my 03 1200c. I too was skeptical about how it would look with the stock riser. I think it looks goods. I dont think 10 inch minis would be enough with the stock riser IMHO. You would have to get 14s to put the bars at a decent height.
I have done this exact swap, got rid of the stock custom riser/speedo and mounted stock street bob bars on 1" risers. I can tell you this is a lot of work, far from straight forward. you have a good 4 or 5" of wiring to shorten up when its done just look at the picture I attatched. I swapped to a standard sportster headlight and mounted my indicator lights in the hood that comes with that headlight. For the speedo, mine crapped out anyways so I had a garmin gps kicking around so I permanently wired and mounted that behind my headlight cowl fairing (something like that).
Also, the stock brake line and clutch cable aren't long enough. Stock street bob bars are around 10.5" mini apes.
