Post Night Rod Special Fairing on a Nightster

Hello,

did anybody ever attempt to mount the original Night Rod Fairing on the Nightster?

I found the following post, but this gentlemen doesn't have the stock handlebars installed:

http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s....php?t=1695850

It would be interesting to know how much of the fairing still needs to be trimmed with the standard setup. (After a speedo relocation, of course)

Also, I am not the biggest fan of drilling a hole into the headlamp bucket, not sure how that goes along with moisture. I would rather try to drill through the bucket of the fairing, if needs be even large enough to get the plug of the cable through.

If anybody has any experience with this, please let me know.

Thanks in advance, niv

If you want an easier install , you could go with something very similar.

It looks like the guy drilled the hole so he could run the wiring and miss the top mount at the same time by making one large slot near the top.
You could test fit the back plate and drill a hole where the stock sportster wiring goes and the slot at the top , this would just require running the wiring "through" the back plate.
I would think the stock bars should "just" clear the fairing , or just a minor clearance cut on both sides for the bars.
It has an interesting look to it , very low and sleek.

Thanks for the reply Mick!
I did have the item you linked to before, it just doesn't quite cut it, I thought. First of all, the shape is different, if only slightly. But more important, the way it mounts, it has a funny angle (as compared to the VRSCDX one) and the headlight itself is somewhat recessed into it that just doesn't look right. The worst part though is the flimsiness of the entire thing, it felt like it would disintegrate at speeds in excess of 60mph.
I put it on and just did not like it at all, went right back on ebay. I am glad you didn't link to my own auction

Anyhow, thanks for your input on the fitment of the Night Rod Fairing, I will post pictures of my results. (don't expect anything before end of may though)

Have a good one, niv

I was looking into putting one on my bike. Came across a factory HD used one & played around with it & had it shot flat black but never got it finished up. I dont see why stock bars wouldnt work, they should be wide enough to clear it.

Here is mine just mocked up in place.
