Question Memory VS Gel = Seat

Memory Foam vs Gel, I have been told both are far better than foam alone, However Gel seems to keep the seat cooler- that being said other than that which is more comfortable for long rides? Has anyone experienced both and in your experience which was better.

I understand I could go with more fluffier seats but I like the lean look of the seat I have now and would like to rework the internals to achieve the most comfortable ride I can get out of it even thou it may not come close to a fluffy seat it will still be far better than what it is now..

I prefer the comfort of gel.

I have memory foam on my BMW and I had gel on my Dyna. (And will have gel on my Sportster soon.)

Both are far better than normal foam. Both make for a comfortable seat if shaped right.

My BMW seat is really good, but tends to settle me in one spot after a while. I stand on the pegs and reposition every 30-40 minutes on long rides. Not painful, just kind of locked in. To be fair, the texture of the skin is grippy.

The gel on my Dyna moved with my pressure points and didn't have the locked-in feeling.

The only downside of gel is that it gets hot when parked in the sun and stays hot for the first few minutes.

Gel retains temperature. If it's real cold in the morning, gel will tend to stay cold as the day warms.
Likewise, if your in a hot climate and the sun is beating on the seat, it's going to retain that heat.

If you want gel, I recommend topping it with a thin layer of memory foam.

I bought the Saddlemen Cafe seat. It's a high density foam and gel seat. Great seat.

I cutout a section in the foam, put a gel pad inside the cutout, and covered it with a layer of Dacron.
