Does anyone own one of those outdoor shelters for their bikes? I do not have a garage or shed, or the land to really have anything built. I've been looking at things like the Speedway Shelter and Cycle Shell...
I used to keep my '02 Sporty under a generic cover but it was terrible. Never stayed in place even when bungee corded, didn't really handle moisture well, couldn't put it on the bike when the pipes were hot, etc.
I have seen several of the Speedway shelters for sale locally by folks that no longer need them because they either sold the bike or moving. From what I saw they were all in good condition considering that they were used for a couple of years. If I would need to buy one, I would go with the Speedway shelter. I also think that their ventilation system is better to help avoid that moisture buildup.
I am on my fourth year here in MN with one of these. Handles a foot of snow or more and heavy winds very well. Will also give you some extra storage and place to wrench. Been very happy with it. They go on sale for $150 every so often after a 25% coupon.
Thanks for your post Beatz, but unfortunately, all I have is a parking spot in a lot in front of a row of condos. I can pull off a motorcycle sized shelter, but a car port would be too intrusive to others.
I recently got one of these http://www.thebikebarn.net/ and find it very suitable for my bike, my neighbour has used one for a number of years without problem.
Fairly easy to assemble and anchors to the ground with a couple of bolts.
Robust enough to handle some snow rain and wind and have seen my neighbours one stand up to some hurricanes.

Yeah there seem to be so many options out there, all of which are very similar. Ironically after Cool Inferno said to check locally, I went home and saw that a Cycle Shell was posted up on Craigslist just hours prior to me checking. The guy used it for one summer, and stored it inside over the winter. He is asking $300 for his tourer model, which I think is reasonable, and compared to a new one at ~$425 + shipping, I think it's a no brainer.
I have read reviews of moisture getting inside on real humid days, this guy said he has not seen any, but I think I might get some kitty liter or damp-rid and keep it inside the shelter. Wouldn't hurt, right?
Sounds like a plan. Good thing you was able to find a good deal locally. Another good thing is that it's for Touring models, you can use it for just about any bike.
