If I just drop these in presumably they will add a little preload, which i need, but I dont need to do anything else, other than than put the amsoil 5wt oil in?
You may be able to get them from Gareth Evans of Reactive Suspension of York, although he may import them on your behalf. I got my Sporty ones from him and Gliode ones direct from Race Tech. Personally I wouldn't use any variety of progressive rate springs, if you're going in there do the job well!

Thanks. They are a strange thing these intiminators. The apparently work better with lighter springs than you'd normally spec for your weight, as they then take better control rather than the springs? Some people are using them quite happily with the oem springs, whilst others use progressives or straight rates with good results. On the XL forum it seems the works dual rate springs are the springs of choice!

I'm definitely going to put them in with the oem springs to start with, just so I can feel what difference they make and then if they arent right i'll go for a straight rate if I can get them reasonably priced...

By all means try them with the stock springs first. As for the bit in red, whoever said that doesn't understand suspension! All the springs do is hold up the weight of the bike and rider, nothing else. The damping device (Intiminator here) controls motion, while we roll along the road. When we hit a pot-hole the forks compress and the springs, if there was no damping, would simply fully compress until coil-bound - which is what bottoming out is. The damper slows down and stops the spring compressing, before it bottoms out.

Which brings us back to the springs! If you are heavier than average get yourself some decent springs. In fact if you are lighter, ditto.
