Is there a limiter to top speed in the ECM or Cobra FI 2000 R ?
My dealer says he doesn't think so on the ECM.
My 2013 1200 V Sportster 72 tops out at 100 mph and shuts off until you get back under 100 mph.
Dealer blames it on my mods, Cobra FI 2000 R, DK Customs 636 V outlaw air cleaner, SE slip ons w/baffles removed and DK Customs TTI's installed?
Spedo shows "none" on error code check
I'll be calling Cobra and check with them but in mean time I'd like to know if anyone else has this problem and what your top speed is
I hit 102 on the way to work last week and the bike was still pulling.
V&H slip ons, Screaming Beagle intake, Fuel Moto Micro EFI, and a full windshield.
RPM limit is what ever stock Harley limit is? I wasn't maxed out on RPM's. Engine was still pulling then just quit? So wondering if the Cobra FI 2000 R is messing up?

What are the factory tires rated at? Car manufacturers cut power, especially pick ups based on tire ratings.
thanks for all your answers. Cobra said they don't have any limiter in their unit so not that. Harley said they've got an RPM limiter but didn't know of a top speed limiter in the ECM. Since I don't have a tach I don't know exactly how high it was ( RPM's ) but it didn't sound like it was wound up that high, maybe it was. I'll have to try again at less throttle, slower roll on to highest mph I can achieve. I'd think there would be a top speed limiter but if so why doesn't the Harley mechanic know? As for tires I'm running "Shinko's" 100% better than the Dunlops IMHO. Anyways 100 mph top speed doesn't cut it when you're running against liter sports bikes

My car has a speed limiter, set at 155mph, but I've never heard of them on any Harleys. Most modern vehicles probably have a rev limiter, but I doubt if most cars or bikes have a speed limiter, unless they are pretty darned fast. They can usually be got around of course, with the right equipment!
I know when my 2012 48 was mostly stock with only a heavy breather a/c, HD race tuner with a stock ECM and Vance and Hines big radius pipes I could hit 120 and not be in the rev limiter at all. It just didn't have any more power to go faster but I could hold 120 as long as I wanted. Also when I did hit rev limits it would just kinda sputter until I shifted. It never acted like it had a speed limiter just rev limiter, so it never cut out completely like a speed limiter causes a vehicle to.
