I have done that in the past, but not recently. The tool is dead easy......

i always used this method as well , and like you have never had an issue .. but for some1 just getting started tinkering , it may be best for the tool to be used

you should just be thankful you have sportster,,,on the touring bikes you have to remove the swing arm..

And the entire primary drive, to install a new belt.

If you have made rear suspension modifications like longer shocks then you may need more slack in the belt to prevent binding. Sitting on the bike should help however the best way would be when the axle, swing arm pivot, and front drive sprocket are in a straight line then adjust tension as that will be the tightest spot in the suspension travel.
