Just wondering what type of mileage you may get out of a average used EVO 1200 Engine before it wears out. Cars now a days are getting 200,000 easy. I was just wondering about motorcycle engines.
What do you guys think? My guess would be around 100K. If the oil is changed as it should be and it was beated to death by hard running.
I know guys with over 80,000 miles on their 1200 EVO Sportsters, and they haven't had to do anything besides normal maintenance.
Just like a car, if you don't 'beat' the bike the engine will last a long time. But like any other engine, if you are addicted to full throttle runs your mileage may vary.

I was just wondering how far the aircooled engine will run. I am not sure how long a water cooled motorcycle engine would last as compared to a aircooled. But I am glad your friends have gotten that much mileage. I plan to be riden mine for a long time.
I have learned over the years that the key to long engine life is changing the oil and filter as per recommendedby the manufacturer....warming up the engine properly, and also avoiding excessive short trips which do not let the oil reach operating temps required to burn off moisture etc from the oil......Short 3 or 4 mile trips on a regular basis without longer trips in between can wear out an engine [ especially lifters, cams etc ] prematurely.....Getting the fluids up to proper operating temps is VERY important.....Engines are designed to RUN for extended periods of time............I have a jeep cherokee with over 307.000 miles on it....Never once have been in the motor for anything.....Change the oil every 5000 or 6000 miles......And i warm it up by putting it in drive and driving slowly bout a minute after starting it up....
I have seen lotsa folks warm a vehicle by just letting it sit and idle fer bout 5 or ten minutes, then just taking off and driving it normally cause the engines warmed up !.....What they fail to realize is that the transmission fluid, and the rear end fluid is still cold etc......In winter time the rear end fluid can be like vasoline when its cold.....Lotsa folks do not think about the OTHER fluids in the vehicle need to be warmed up also.....And driving slowly will aid in warming up ALL the fluids together......
